Our planet has only limited resources, so howies has always been committed to minimising the environmental impact of everything we make.
How we package our products is a significant part of that.
Packaging is a necessary evil. We need it to transport and protect our products, so they arrive at your door in perfect condition.
In the last 10 years we have reduced the amount of packaging we use across the board. We now use fewer swing tags and labels – our swing tag is now a smaller, single card made from recycled paper. It is attached to the garment using natural fibre string instead of plastic kimbles.
To lower the impact of our packaging even further we've eliminated all single use plastic and use only sustainable materials that are biodegradable, recycled or recyclable.
We're proud of what we've done so far, but always looking for new, innovate ways to help us leave a smaller footprint.

Compostable Garment Bags
Our garment bags are made from corn starch. They contain absolutely zero plastic and can be disposed of in your compost bin. They are non-toxic, soil-safe and will decompose completely in around 3 months without leaving any harmful trace materials.
Wood Doesn't Grow on Trees
Made in collaboration with Priory Elements Eco Packaging, our Eco Mailing Bags™ use recycled paper with water soluble glues.
Eco Mailing Bags™ are 100% biodegradable. They're impressively sturdy, yet remain ocean friendly, climate neutral and totally plastic-free.
Paper Tape
You won't find that traditional brown plastic parcel tape on any package from howies. That stuff is made using virgin plastic that can't be recycled, so eventually ends up in landfill.
The parcel tape we use is made from recycled paper and water soluble glue. It's biodegradable and recyclable and comes from sustainably sourced material. It safely secures our products while in transit, without harming the planet.
Nuts About the Small Stuff
We use packing peanuts to protect fragile items during transit. Unlike traditional non eco-friendly polystyrene packing peanuts, our Eco Flo™ loose fill peanuts are made from GM free starch. They are not only fully recyclable, but also biodegradable and totally compostable.
Together, that means they are lower impact without compromising the level of protection they give our products.
